Laser vision correction procedures (SMILE, LASIK, and PRK) are some of the most popular elective surgeries in the United States. They offer patients a chance to live life without a dependency on glasses and contacts. We offer all three procedures.
Refractive Lens Exchange and Implantable Collamer Lenses are other types of Vision Correction Procedures. They can be a good solution for patients who are noticing they need reading glasses or have very high prescriptions. Like Laser Vision Correction, the goal of RLE and ICL is to help patients live a life without glasses and contacts and the hassles associated with them.
The majority of people develop cataracts as they age. A cataract is a clouding of the natural lens in your eye that leads to blurry and distorted vision, loss of vivid colors, and difficulty seeing at night. The only way to relieve cataract symptoms is to surgically remove the cataract and replace it with an intraocular lens implant. This common procedure is known as “cataract surgery.” We have completed over 55,000 cataract surgeries at FEI.

FAQ
We have four surgeons who perform surgery:
- Konrad Filutowski, MD
- Angela Dempsey, MD
- Gustavo Munguba, MD, PhD
- Siripong Rojanasthien, MD
Our virtual consultations last around 20-30 minutes. You will go over surgical options and pricing with one of our counselors. Your first in-person appointment in our office will confirm that you are a candidate for surgery and lasts about 2 hours. You will have a dilated eye exam, see one of our physicians, and meet with your surgical counselor to review your options.
This depends on your specific situation, but we can generally schedule your first eye procedure within a few weeks to a month.
- Vision Correction Surgery: The goal of all Vision Correction Surgery is to reduce or eliminate your need for glasses. Our physicians will work with you to determine your visual goal. Very few of our vision correction patients require glasses after surgery.
- Cataract Surgery: Most patients who elect to have standard cataract surgery will need some form of glasses or contact lenses following their procedure. However, our Vision Freedom Option is designed to reduce or eliminate your need for glasses and contacts and give you the best possible vision after your procedure.
- Vision Correction Surgery: Most insurance plans do not cover elective vision correction surgery.
- Cataract Surgery: Most medical insurance plans will cover cataract surgery. Our Vision Freedom Option is considered elective and is not covered by most insurance plans.
We accept plans from many providers including Cigna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, United Healthcare, Humana, and Medicare/Medicaid. The easiest way to find out if we accept your specific plan is to call our office and one of our Billing Specialists can confirm we accept your insurance.
The cost of your procedure depends on your insurance plan, copays, and allowables.
