What Are Cataracts?

A cataract occurs when the eye’s natural lens becomes cloudy, blocking, distorting, and scattering light. Images appear blurry and colors muted – almost like looking through a foggy windshield. For many, cataracts are a natural result of aging. Over 50% of Americans over age 75 will have a cataract. You can suffer from cataracts at a younger age, especially if you have had an eye injury, take certain medications and have certain diseases.  Those of us living in Florida are also at increased risk due to UV exposure from our Florida sun.

Want to know if your vision problems might be a cataract? Check our list of common symptoms. If you experience one or more, we suggest scheduling an eye exam:

Blurred vision

Increased sensitivity

Film covering vision

Loss of vivid colors

Night blindness & difficulty driving

Frequent changes in eyeglass prescriptions

no glasses after cataract surgery! That's our...

Vision Freedom Option

At the Filutowski Eye Institute, we craft a unique surgical plan for each patient based off of your visual needs and goals. While cataract surgery will improve the vision lost because of the cataract, many patients still need glasses for their best possible vision following surgery.

We offer two types of treatments plans to our patients.

Standard
Cataract Surgery

Traditional cataract surgery will remove your clouded lens and replace it with an intraocular lens implant to restore vision to how it was before your cataract.

Vision Freedom Option

Our Vision Freedom Option (VFO) for cataract surgery is an additional set of services to help you live a life free from contacts and glasses after your cataract procedure.

Cataract Surgery Pricing

Standard Cataract Surgery is typically partially covered by medical insurance. Some patients may still have a co-pay. Please call to verify if we accept your carrier and plan or check our list of insurance plans. If you are unsure of your plan’s benefits, our billing specialists can confirm with your insurance provider.

Our Vision Freedom Option for Cataract Surgery is an additional cost to fees for standard cataract surgery. We offer financing through CareCredit for out of pocket expenses.

  • Konrad Filutowski, MD
  • Gustavo Munguba, MD, PhD
  • Eduardo Bustamante, MD
  • Siripong Rojanasthien, MD

Your initial evaluation appointment lasts about 2-3 hours. You will have a dilated eye exam, see one of our physicians, and meet with your surgical counselor to review your options.
